About Delia

Practical by nature. Curious by habit.

Delia Elbaum is a longtime business leader, brand builder, family traveler and vacation-rental host. She has spent years researching where to stay, how to get there and what is truly worth doing — for herself, her family and the groups she travels with.

Her approach is practical and thorough. She cares about value, logistics, comfort and avoiding the kinds of mistakes that are easy to make when you're planning from a distance.

“I travel to find the places that make you forget to check your phone.”

Personal note

Hi, I'm Delia.

I'm a travel writer, planner and recovering over-researcher based in the Westchester, NY. I've been traveling with my family since my kids were small — and now that they're grown, the trips have gotten longer, more interesting and a lot more honest.

I started Travel Field Guides because I kept giving the same advice to friends: skip that resort, take this ferry, eat at the place with no menu. Eventually it made more sense to write it all down. And even more sense to give people the tools to build a trip for their family, with their own likes and needs.

Everything on this site comes from a real experience. I don't cover destinations I haven't visited, and I don't recommend things I wouldn't book again.
